Why do ants smell food and invite their friends so quick?

I swear, If I don't clean up the SECOND that I finish eating, ants come crwling all over. They are so annoying!

2, try using pepper around the mouth of the nest, ants don't like it.

Reply:They're just like my Aunt Audrey.....she can tell if I'm cooking from 20 miles away, and just barges in, sometimes bringing a couple of her crazy old lady friends.
