If you know them as they are around campus and stuf or you know through a friend/cousif but you don't speak to them often?

Hmm it depends on the guy, if your worried it is going to be too forward, when you see them next say something like "hey, have you got facebook?"
Reply:It's not really straightforward so don't worry. Try to just say something like how you wish you had more time to chat and ask if they had Facebook, or you could always just randomly add them, it happens more often then you'd think.
