What is it called when a community live in seclusion and outsiders only come in if they have a special invite?

I know there is one where my mum's friend lives in bristol (?) and I watched a program about it a long time ago.

They litrally have gates blocking their land and they all live in seperate families but work together as a community.

A cult is one possible answer, but it could also be a commune. Some people may consider this to be the same thing. It would depend if you are required to follow a certain system of beliefs to be allowed to live there and if you are allowed to leave if you want to. In my opinion cults are much more restrictive in allowing members to make decisions. A commune is not necessarily based on following a cult, but working together as a community.
